Hypnotic marketing at its very best. Rapport, leading, and pacing all brilliantly executed. Have you by chance studied NeuroLinguistic Programing? When I first saw this video, I recognized the psychological elements, but didn't dig as deeply as your explanation.
All sales video leads to the buy/not buy choice and most people know which they are going to do long before the end and therefor don't stick around for the whole thing -- for the most part. This created such a level of empathy and involvement that even the most cynical watcher just *had* to know the guy made out ok in the end, and by what means he rescued not just himself but everyone else whose livelihood was hanging off the edge of the cliff.
The one room apartment thing has been done to death. Awesome job, Andy!
